The San Francisco Blues Festival, the world's longest-running blues showcase, celebrates its 30th anniversary Sept. 28-29 on the Great Meadow at Fort Mason with an exceptional lineup topped by rocker Steve Miller in a return to his Chicago blues roots.
Miller will close the festival Sunday with special guests Charlie Musselwhite, Elvin Bishop, Barry Goldberg (Electric Flag), Harvey Mandel, Nick Gravenites and Marcy Levy (former Eric Clapton vocalist).
The Bay Area's Robert Cray, long considered a prime modernizer of the blues,headlines Saturday. Other scheduled acts include octogenarian Robert Jr. Lockwood, who learned to play Delta-style blues guitar at the feet of Robert Johnson; harmonica master and Muddy Waters Band veteran James Cotton; the volcanic Chicago guitarist Otis Rush; and cult soul legend Howard Tate, who is making a welcome comeback.
Tickets for the festival, now on sale, are $25 per day ($30 on day of show).
A two-day pass purchased in advance is $40. There will also be a reserved seating area in front of the stage for premium two-day pass holders ($65).

Saturday: Robert Cray é sensacional, dispensa comentários. Little Charlie and the Nightcats é muito bacana também (o gaitista é uma figura, e o Charlie - guitarra - toca muito bem mesmo).
Sunday: Otis Rush é um dos guitarristas mais importantes do blues. Tenho um disco dele (Door to Door), que é dividido com Albert King, que é uma das bíblias do blues. E tem James Cotton... esse cara é tudo. Fui num show dele no Morro da Urca - foi um dos melhores da minha vida. Não sei se ele ainda está com a mesma banda. Todos são excelentes, sem exceção. E, no meio do show, James Cotton pergunta à platéia se alguém tem whisky: logo aparece uma garrafinha, passada de mão em mão até o palco. Ele pega a garrafa, e vira tudo, como se fosse água... devia ter quase meio litro de whisky ali. Joga a garrafa vazia num canto, e faz um solo de uns dez minutos com sua gaita. Nunca vi uma platéia tão quieta como naqueles dez minutos - nem numa ópera. Na minha modesta opinião, é o melhor gaitista de blues de todos os tempos.
